Biography

Sandra Tobias graduated from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1984 and since then has spent time travelling, teaching art, producing her own paintings and parenting.
She spent two years living in Tokyo where she was selected for the annual PARCO Urban Art exhibition, ‘Absolut Vodka’ exhibition, Spiral Gallery and several others.
She returned to central Victoria after a 4-year stint living in Hong Kong, where she developed community arts projects; ‘Artist’s in the Rotunda’ (Castlemaine State Festival, 2007) and “Posted-it’s what was written!” Latrobe University Gallery Bendigo, Punctum, Incubator, Castlemaine and Federation Square in 2009. 
Tobias has exhibited in-group and solo shows in nationally and internationally. Her work is represented in several Australian and International Collections both private and public
For the last 5 years she has been an artist @ Peagreenboat Studios Brunswick. Here she developed her cut-out egg tempera series, gouache on paper and egg tempera paintings. A significant development in her work has been inspired by her time drawing in and around Brunswick and developing this recent series ‘Virtues’ part of an installation at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.
She currently lives and has her studio practice in ‘The People’s Republik of Brunswick’ In this somewhat frenetic pace of life, she jugglesteaching and producing her own work. She is currently producing work for 2025 exhibition and developing her arts project ‘My Maisonette’.
